Linux World Boston

intelinside_550x424.jpg

I returned from Linux world Boston yesterday and would like to recap what I saw. I got to see the Linux Link tech show guys which was pretty cool. There were a lot of companies there. I got to see the firetrucks going to the convention center when the Unisys booth went up in smoke(picture from here). That was a site to see. After that most of the day was spent going around to the different booths and getting free t-shirts. One of the more interesting things was the placement of the booths. When you first went into the conference and down the stairs you would see that they placed Intel and AMD very close together. They also placed KDE and GNOME right next to each other in the .org pavilion. I was waiting to see a fight brake out myself.

After going around to the different booths I went upstairs to the geeks vs. nerds competition to see who knows the most. The contestants were from Oracle and My SQL. It was interesting and the nerds ended up winning. After that I attended the birds of a feather session with the Samba developers. It was fascinating to find out what they were looking to do with the Samba project. One of the developers brought up that Samba has to many options that were put in place and that they need to start getting rid of a few of them that were used in systems that aren't needed anymore. He talked about taking them out of the standard build and making them separate.

I wish I had a camara to take pictures but next year I will be able to.
